Ranked in the top one percent of the world’s universities, Curtin University Medical School is MyKnowledgeMap’s first Australian customer and marks the beginning of a new adventure for the creators of Myprogress within the market.
Curtin is one of the fastest growing universities in the world, with campuses in Western Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius as well as a network of university partners further afield. Opened in 2016, Curtin Medical School is the only school to offer a direct-entry undergraduate program in Western Australia, as other universities require a completion of three-year bachelors before entering a medical course. The medical program is centred around recognising complex issues that the Western Australian health system faces, with a need for more doctors to cover a wide range of medical areas. In this capacity, Curtin is committed to producing graduates who are better equipped to meet community needs.
Situated on the Bentley Campus, the five-story Medical School building features consultation rooms for real-world learning, as well as collaborative and informal learning spaces, clinical skills areas and learning studios. As part of Curtin’s innovative and immersive approach to learning, Myprogress will be used to assess, support and provide rich feedback to students whilst they are on clinical practice within their final two years of study. By using the Myprogress mobile app on their own smartphones, students can identify and easily take advantage of opportunities to demonstrate learning and competencies, assessors can then easily assess and provide feedback on the device and submit the assessment. Designed to work in challenging clinical settings, a WiFi connection is not needed for the assessment to take place, ensuring there is minimal disruption to the process and once submitted, the assessment is placed within the student’s online portfolio, mapped against their wider learning framework with progress fully tracked. With a commitment to produce graduates who are better equipped to meet community needs, Myprogress will support Curtin’s medical students and staff so that graduates are better prepared for their internships post-graduation.
